PROJECT DESCRIPTION.
The first phase of the waterfront walking trails will be located along the west bank of the Clinch River beginning at the location of the future Pedestrian Bridge and extending south along the river engaging Lakefront Park and the existing Marina. The trail will continue on beneath Clinton Highway to the Anderson Heights area where it will terminate. The trail will consist of sidewalks, park benches and lighting and will include an interactive water feature.

OPPORTUNITIES.

• Connect the residential area to Lakefront Park and the Pedestrian Bridge
• Increase frequency of activity on the riverfront and provide better access to the water
• Link the Marina to other recreational sites
• Interactive water feature provides an element that relates to the river
• Set the precedent for future walking trails and the standards for lighting, park benches and other features

CHALLENGES.

• Coordinating construction with minimal disruption to the existing park and Marina operations
• Existing docks at Marina are in need of renovation/repair
• Existing topography and overgrown vegetation conceal potential constructability problems
• Verification of City ownership and/or control of required land
• Access behind existing medical office building
• Availability and total of grant and city funding could limit the extent of this project
